The words are right. The meaning isn't.
Machine translation rarely fails by producing gibberish. It fails by producing a sentence that reads perfectly well and says something else. Here is an ordinary message from a colleague through both engines.
お疲れ様です！例の件、どうなりました？
"thank you for your hard work! What happened to the example?"
There is no example. 例の件 means "that thing we discussed", and お疲れ様です is how colleagues say hello, not thanks. Fluent English, wrong conversation.
"Hey! Any update on that thing we discussed?"
Reads the greeting as a greeting and the reference as a reference, which is what the sender actually wrote.
